Welcome to Year 2 2021-2022
Hello 'Year 2' from Miss Griffiths and our new Learning Support Officer Miss E. Cahalane. We hope you are ready for lots of fun learning, and making happy memories together during 2021/2022.
In Year 2, we want you to give everything a good try to develop an 'I can' attitude, and take risks in a safe, supportive classroom.
We will aim to become:
Ambitious and capable
Healthy and confident
Enterprising and creative learners
We will make sure we get the basics embedded in Literacy and Numeracy every day this term to fill the gaps from recent lock downs.
During other times of the day, we will be exploring, questioning, and investigating through using an inquiry based approach to learning based on rich, real life experiences.
Reading days will be allocated during the first week - please ensure your child returns their book on their days every week. We can't stress the importance of reading and reading with your child every day to help them progress.
In class time, children will also read daily in Read Write Inc. which will include developing their knowledge of letter sounds to blend and segment words, learn common high frequency words and reading books in pairs.
PE day will be decided shortly. Your child can wear their kits into school on this day with trainers as we may be doing it outside. Please ensure it is appropriate kit, and no jewellery is allowed.
COVID 19 AND ISOLATING
We hope this will be avoided, but if a member of staff/child needs to isolate, or the whole class, please be aware that you will be expected to complete work at home set by the class teacher. Work will be issued through the Seesaw app - please make sure you have logged in with your child!
We will continue to use Seesaw, our online learning platform. Work to start or continue at home based around our class work will be uploaded regularly. We hope you can support your child to use this.
HWB passwords will also be handed out for your child. Their username and passwords will take time to learn, but hopefully they will grasp using them during the coming months.
SUPPORTING THE BASICS AT HOME
You can help your child learn their letter sounds. We use the Read Write Inc. scheme. This word mat can be used to help your child learn their sounds, but also help them spell too.
Unfortunately not the ones with chocolate chips.
