Welcome to Year 2
A big 'HELLO' from Miss Griffiths and Mrs Evans. It is fabulous to see you all back at school. You have all worked your socks off so far so keep this up.
Our topic this term is called 'What a Wonderful World'. To begin with we are looking at ourselves and what makes us special. Then we will move onto the lives of other amazing individuals, and how they have made a difference to the world.
The 'BFG' by Roald Dahl is the first book we are looking at. It is such a fantastic book with lots of important messages in it. Please read the book to your child if you have a copy.
As we move into October, it will be 'Black History Month'. During this time, we will look at the famous speech by Martin Luther King Jr, 'I have a dream..' Importantly, we will be looking at how differences in our world should be celebrated, and embraced.
After October half term, we will start looking at Africa, more specifically Kenya, where the story of 'Handa's Surprise' is set. We will be looking closely at life there and comparing it to Wales.
READING BOOKS/DAYS
Your child has an allocated day which I kept as the same from last year. Children need to return it weekly on their reading day, and they will be listened to at school. We are awaiting new reading records so any comments you may have please pass on verbally on the gate or on a slip of paper.
PE DAY
PE is on Fridays. At the moment due to COVID 19, your child can wear their kits into school on this day with trainers as we may be doing it outside. Please ensure it is appropriate kit, and no jewellery is allowed.
COVID 19 AND ISOLATING
We hope this will be avoided, but if a member of staff/child needs to isolate, or the whole class, please be aware that you will be expected to complete work at home set by the class teacher. Work will be issued through the Seesaw app - please make sure you have logged in with your child!
SUPPORTING AT HOME
You can help your child learn their letter sounds. We use the Read Write Inc. scheme. This word mat can be used to help your child learn their sounds, but also help them spell too.
Unfortunately not the ones with chocolate chips.
