Week Beginning 6.7.2020
Maths and Numeracy
Activity 1:
A rainbow has 7 colours. Can you create 20 different mathematical questions that end with the number 7? You should use addition, subtraction, division and multiplication in your questions. You could include fractions, percentages and word problems to make them more interesting.
Activity 2: Using a compass, draw an accurate rainbow. Use the instruction sheet provided to help you
Activity 3: Log into Mathletics and complete some activities.
Language, Literacy and Communication
Oracy: Practice reading the poem called ‘The Rainbow Children’. Film yourself performing the poem. Try to inject feeling and emotion into it as you perform. Send it to me.
Reading: Complete the reading comprehension about the NHS. One star is the easier level and the 3 star requires more detail.
Writing: Write your own poem called ‘The Rainbow Children’ to share your experience during the pandemic. Email them to me so I can share them in class when you come in.
Health and Wellbeing
Our days can be busy, fun and exciting. This is great! To keep our mind and body healthy, it is important to take time to be still, calm and quiet too. You have the right to relax and play.
Go outside or sit at a window and watch the clouds. Just watch, breathing slowly and gently. Feel your body relax as you take time to be still. Look carefully at the clouds. What shapes can you see? Draw the different shapes and pictures you see.
You could do this activity in a park or out on your walk too.
Expressive Arts
Make a rainbow wind chime.
Go and find 7 sticks and smooth them with some sandpaper.
Paint each of them a different colour.
Attach some string to the top of each stick.
Hang them in tree or somewhere outdoors for others to find.
Take a picture for me!
Science and Technology
Did you know that you can grow your own rainbow?
You will need a scientific process called the capillary action. This action happens when a liquid moves up through a hollow tube or into a spongy, solid material. It happens when three forces work together: cohesion, adhesion and surface tension.
Water molecules like to stick to each other - this is called cohesion. They also like to stick to solids in a process called adhesion.
Follow the instructions provided.
Send me a picture!
Humanities
Research the history of the NHS and Aneurin Bevan.
Make a fact file poster that we can display in class to make a big thank you wall to the NHS
Week Beginning 22nd June
Maths and Numeracy
Friday Night – Takeaway night
‘Harri lives with his parents and his little sister Bethan. On Friday night they like to have either an Indian or a Chinese takeaway. They usually order 3 main meals, a portion of rice, a side dish and a bag of chips. Dad likes to get change from his £20 note!’
Challenges:
Plan a takeaway for lockdown in the garden with another family of four (8 people in total). What does the meal look like now?
Language, Literacy and Communication
Oracy: Have a discussion about your favourite foods with your family. What’s the most exotic/weird food you have ever tried? Come up with a list of three things that you agree to try with your family.
Reading: I have attached a reading comprehension to complete. Please remember to use full sentences and explain your answers.
Writing: Create a new food product. It could be a chocolate bar, a fruit bar, a cereal, a new flavour of crisps etc.
Write an advert for your product- this could be a leaflet or a poster. Create a film advert and share it with me. Design a slogan. Create a jingle to accompany it.
Health and Wellbeing
Plan a healthy meal that you could make with your family. This could be a breakfast, lunch or dinner. Make sure you make plan something that everyone likes.
Can you make the meal with a grown up? Send a photo of what you make!
Expressive Arts
Look at the artist Arcimboldo.
Use fruit and vegetables that you have at home to recreate your own picture.
If you can’t recreate it with fruit and vegetables, try and paint a picture instead.
Science and Technology
Research the food groups. Look at each food group that we need to stay healthy. What does each food group do for us?
Make sure you find out about Protein, Carbohydrate, Fats, Fibre, Vitamins and minerals.
Produce a fact file about each food group.
Humanities
Fairtrade
Research Fairtrade. What is it and what does it stand for? Can you find why Fairtrade makes such a difference to people’s lives?
Have a look to see if you have any Fairtrade products at home.
Unfortunately not the ones with chocolate chips.
